Anime NYC Powered By Crunchyroll is excited to welcome anime fans, guests, and publishers back together this November for a safe and healthy event.

To do this, we’ve been speaking with local health experts along with fans, guests, and publishers throughout the year on their recommendations.

The precautions detailed below follow industry-leading best practices and are required by all fans, guests, exhibitors, crew, staff, and everyone else who attends Anime NYC to create a safe experience for all. Even so, please understand there is a risk of COVID-19 exposure by visiting any public place.

All Anime NYC participants who are 5-years-old or older are required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result to attend. Your proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test will be checked once upon your first arrival at Anime NYC, after which you will be given a wristband confirming your vaccination or negative test status has been verified. Keep this wristband on during all your time at Anime NYC.

Your proof of full vaccination must show that you have received at least two doses of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. A booster shot is not required. Full vaccination from any other vaccine approved by the CDC or WHO is also acceptable. Your final dose of the vaccine must have been administered at least 14 days prior to the event.
Proof of vaccination accepted includes:

  • A CDC vaccination card or similar documentation issued by another foreign governmental jurisdiction
  • A photo of a vaccination card as a separate document, or stored on a phone or electronic device with a valid ID in the same photo.
  • Documentation of vaccination from a healthcare provider
  • A personal digital COVID-19 vaccine record with a QR code that scans to display name, date of birth, vaccine dates and vaccine type

Attendees 18-and-older must additionally provide proof of identification (driver’s license or similar photo ID) for entry.

Please show proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of your arrival at Anime NYC. If attending multiple days, only one test is required to be taken within 72 hours of your first day of entry.

Test types accepted include:

  • PCR Test
  • Rapid PCR Test
  • Rapid Antigen Test

Tests can be:

  • At a government-run testing facility
  • At a local pharmacy
  • At-home tests from pharmacies or online retailers

When showing a negative test, accepted test results include:

  • A digital photo
  • A printed copy
  • A screenshot of an app
  • A screenshot of an email

All attendees, exhibitors, guests, staff, crew, and all others 2-years-old or older entering the Javits Center must wear masks, and please see New York City’s recommendations for preferred face coverings. All face coverings must properly cover your nose and mouth. A mesh mask is not an acceptable face covering. A face shield is not an acceptable substitute for a mask. Face coverings can be removed when eating or drinking and by panelists while socially distanced on stage, but face coverings must be worn at all other times at Anime NYC, including when taking part in any cosplay or celebrity photographs.

Cosplay masks and helmets are permitted but approved face coverings must be worn under the cosplay. Upon entry to the building, you may be required to remove your cosplay mask for security and show your approved face covering.

Beyond proof of vaccination or negative COVID tests as well as face coverings, Anime NYC is enacting several additional precautions.

  • Dedicated off-site proof of vaccination and negative COVID test check location with longer hours and more capacity to provide for a faster and easier check process.
  • Anime NYC is operating at a reduced capacity this year. Fewer tickets are being sold each day to increase the space for every attendees.
  • All badges are mailed this year to eliminate long waits in close queues for pick up on site.
  • All Main Event panels will require RSVPs to eliminate long waits in close queues for a chance to attend.
  • Dedicated Face Covering Captains to assure proper face covering usage throughout the convention.
  • Installation of specialized, hospital-grade air filters to improve air quality and reduce any air contaminants in the Javits Center.
  • The Javits Center has achieved Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) STAR accreditation, the gold standard for facilities implementing strict infectious disease protocols in today’s environment. To achieve the GBAC STAR, Javits has demonstrated achievements in 20 core elements, from standard operating procedures to personal protective equipment.

Knowing that health and safety means more than COVID, Anime NYC is putting in place:

  • New attendee entrance location and plan to provide for faster and easier access into the building.
  • New deployment of Evolv Technology security scanners at entrances to detect concealed weapons and other threats using advanced digital sensors.
  • Continued patrols from explosive detection dogs.

Anime NYC is a large gathering, and vaccinations or negative COVID tests as well as face coverings are for the health and safety of all participants. We unfortunately cannot make exceptions for individuals.

We ask that all attendees self-evaluate prior to coming to Anime NYC in order to protect others at the event. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who has had COVID-19 in the 14 days prior to the event, please do not enter the convention center. While we cannot accommodate a refund or rollover, you are able to list your badges on Lyte to see if you can be matched with a fan looking to purchase a badge to our show.
