This year Anime NYC is holding programming at the New York Public Library to expand our offerings uniquely for professionals, librarians, and of course anime fans!

Join us at the NYPL’s 53rd Street Branch as we turn the library into a hub for anime and manga fans and professionals on Thursday November 16 and Friday November 17!

Description: Ignite ideas, spark collaborations, and foster meaningful connections. This networking break is designed to bring together librarians, educators, and editors from publishing companies to celebrate manga and the community that loves and supports it.

Designing Library Programs Around Manga (Reservation Required, Open to Professionals)

Are you a library worker who’d like to utilize anime/manga to draw more patrons to your branch? Or a library patron who’d like more anime/manga programs at your local branch? At this panel, 3 librarians from the New York Public Library will be on hand to share successes, struggles, and ideas that could help with this endeavor, regardless of budget!

Anime Debate Tournament: Are You the G.O.A.T? (Reservations Encouraged, Open to the Public)

Date: Thursday, November 16
Time: 4:00PM – 5:00PM
Location: New York Public Library, 18 W 53rd St

The debate will involve formal discourse, discussion & oral addresses on “Which Anime Character Would Win In A Battle?”. This includes a moderator, audience, and commentators play-by-play. Participants will train with expert debaters before the panel and then defend their character using logic and knowledge of weaponry, abilities, skills & power. This event is led by AniTOMO Con: designed to amplify and celebrate diverse perspectives & underrepresented communities, while also providing a resource to learn about Japanese culture, anime, manga, & gaming for free, the American Debate League: a nonprofit organization helping students to become better thinkers, speakers, and leaders and Slice of Anime Network: a network that loves anime, values high-quality content, and strives for authentic community engagement. Those who RSVP will be given precedence over those who do not if the event fills.

We’re excited to bring these 4 events to the New York Public Library! Designed specifically with our Professional attendees in mind, we’ve got programming for librarians by librarians, as well as informational sessions from industry experts and publishers like Kodansha, Yen Press, Dark Horse, and Penguin Random House’s new imprint, Inklore. All fans are invited to the event on Thursday, November 16 and they are encouraged to reserve a spot but a reservation does not guarantee entry. The events on November 17 do require a reservation and a Pro badge to attend.
