EIKO KADONO

Eiko Kadono, born in Tokyo in 1935, lived in Brazil for two years beginning in 1959. Drawing on that experience, she made her debut as an author in 1970. Her best-known work, Kiki’s Delivery Service, was first published in 1985 and later adapted into an animated film, as well as stage and live-action productions. It celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2025. The beloved series also includes Kiki and the New Magic and Kiki and the Other Witch.
Kadono has published nearly two hundred original works and received numerous accolades, including the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2018 and recognition on the IBBY Honor List for Kiki’s Delivery Service. In 2023, the Kiki’s Museum of Literature opened in Tokyo in celebration of her work.

Studied under director Masaaki Yuasa as an assistant director along with Fuga Yamashiro. He worked as storyboarder and episode director on “The Heike Story” (2022), “The Tatami Time Machine Blues” (2022) and “SCOTT PILGRIM TAKES OFF” (2023); he also storyboarded and directed the opening of “SPTO”. On “DAN DA DAN” (2024), he served as an assistant director, in addition to storyboarding and directing both an episode and the series ending.
Animated TV series, “THE GHOST IN THE SHELL”, set to air in July 2026, marks his debut as director.

yama is a solo singer known for a clear, ethereal voice, emotionally nuanced performances that capture feelings of loneliness and inner conflict, and a mysterious low-profile presence that resonates with young listeners in Japan and overseas. After a striking debut in April 2020 with the original song “Haru wo Tsugeru,” yama has released a series of hit tracks, including “Magical Syndrome,” featured in the Magical Chiikawa special music video, and “Shikisai (color),” the ending theme for the TV anime SPY×FAMILY. In 2025, yama held the Asia tour “Koshitantan 2025,” performing in Seoul, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Singapore, and Hong Kong, drawing a total audience of around 7,000 fans. In March 2026, yama will release the concept EP “C.U.T” and kick off a nationwide tour titled “Uka.”

Mackenyu was born in Los Angeles, November 16, 1996, and is the son of actor, producer, director and martial artist Shin’ichi Chiba. Growing up in Los Angeles, he appeared in a few films and TV shows while he was in school and had many interests that included learning to ride horseback, Kyokushin Karate, gymnastics, water polo, and wrestling as well as interest in music that led him to learn piano at age ten and later learning to play saxophone and flute.
Mackenyu rose to fame as an actor after landing the role of Wataya Arata in the Chihayafuru trilogy (2016) that earned him the 40th Annual Japan Academy Newcomer of the Year Award in 2017. His fame grew dramatically after his supporting role as Cadet Ryoichi in the feature Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) and his lead role in the racing action movie Over Drive (2018). Mackenyu was cast as the villain, Enishi Yukishiro, in the blockbuster Rurouni Kenshin: Final Chapter (2021) and then as Scar in Fullmetal Alchemist: The Revenge Of Scar and Fullmetal Alchemist: Final Transmutation (2022).
In 2021, Mackenyu was cast as Roronoa Zoro in the Netflix live action series adaptation of One Piece (2023), and as the lead, Seiya, in the feature Knights of the Zodiac (2023). Mackenyu also stars in two Disney+ projects in 2023, the original live action/ anime mixed feature, Dragons of Wonderhatch and the drama series, House Of The Owl.

Zack Davisson is an award-winning writer, translator, and lecturer. He is on faculty at NYU and active in his field. Respected in both academic and popular culture circles, Davisson played a significant role in making Japanese folklore, entertainment, and literature accessible to English-speaking audiences. He translated globally known properties such as Devilman, Kitaro, Captain Harlock as well as modern works such as Cat + Gamer and Gou Tanabe’s Lovecraft manga. Davisson also is the author of The Ultimate Guide to Japanese Yokai and Yurei: The Japanese Ghost, Davisson lectured on manga, folklore, and translation at Duke University, Annapolis Naval Academy, Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia, and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

ALANNA HAILEY

Alanna will be hosting “Create a Word Chain” at the Kids Zone presented by Scholastic. Kids will learn a fun poem and rhythmic word chain, bringing it to life through interactive body percussion and group performance!
Alanna Hailey has taught Pre-K-5th grade general music and 6th grade beginning band for five years in New Mexico. Her pedagogy has been shaped by incorporating the interests she shares with her students, particularly anime and video game music, into her students’ curricula. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Northwestern State University of Louisiana where her mentors in the percussion studio were Mr. Kenneth Green and Dr. Oliver Molina. She is a certified Orff-Schulwerk Educator through the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. Her professional memberships include the National Association for Music Education, New Mexico Music Educators Association, Percussive Arts Society, and Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity for Women.

Aurora is a 200-hour certified yoga instructor who has been practicing various styles of yoga for just over 5 years. She is passionate about the healing effects that yoga can have on the mind, body, and spirit. Movement is her medicine. She believes yoga is not just a class, it is a mindset and a way of life to be shared with others. Outside of her yoga practice, she enjoys breakdancing and making music.

The AniTOMO team will be hosting programming in the Family Zone presented by Scholastic. “Color Me To Life: Kamishibai “Paper Theater” is where kids and their families will bring to life the decades-old Japanese storytelling art form of Kamishibai through creativity and imagination. “Mission Anime NYC: Anime Heroes to the Rescue!” is where kids and their families will be able to bring some of the most popular Japanese heroes in anime and gaming to life through puppetry.
Eileen Level, a champion of the cinema-going experience, has worked in the film festival industry since 2014. Since then, she has launched PaleFO Cinema, amplifying voices through the cinematic arena while serving as an educator at the New York International Children’s Film Festival, an Oscar-qualifying festival that represents and celebrates, unique, diverse, and historically excluded voices among youth. In 2023, Level founded AniTOMO Convention, one of the largest free conventions celebrating Japanese culture in New York City.

Emmanuel Knight is a Brooklyn-born and -based manga artist, freelance illustrator, and community organizer. He is a self-published writer and creator of Magna AX, an urban fantasy manga series that explores themes of grief, friendship, resilience, and identity. Knight is known for a signature style that fuses screen tones and halftone design with vibrant splashes of color. His hues range from saturated tones, evoking joy and excitement, to soft pastels, evoking vulnerability, romanticism and retrospection.

Matthew Loux is the artist and creator of the kids graphic novels My Journey to Japan, Escape to Yokai Mountain, Prunella and the Cursed Skull Ring, The Time Museum, and the Salt Water Taffy series. He is also the artist of the Spark Experiment comic.
